USB drives are popular devices and now it get a new function as a virus carrier. US-CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) discloses a warning, about the evil code that has been added to Flashdisk USB. Meanwhile, the United States Department of Defense has prohibited the use of USB drives, CD, and other removable storage devices, because of the spread of the virus Agent.bzt, a variant of the worm SillyFDC.

“We have seen previously in the portable external storage devices, such as floppy disks that have occurred in 1990, and then followed the CD. Meanwhile, the facts about these devices are used by many users, so that they easily become the target of viruses. Virus writers develop new formulas of malware that design a USB Flash disk to do an attack.

However, USB Flash disk also supports the spread of the virus as its small size and easy carried. There are two ways to spread virus via USB Flash. A computer that is infected can spread the virus to a neutralized USB that just is plugged in USB port. And then USB bring the virus and spread it to other computers if the operating system in the new computer has the AutoRun feature type. AutoRun function is available in the Windows and will display installer and other programs automatically, or when a CD is inserted. Even for Mac computers also have the same functions with Windows.
